Audition tips – what you need

If you are planning to audition for either of our shows this summer, the following are things you will need to bring and tips for a successful audition.

• Please bring a photo of yourself (It can be a copy and wallet size or a snap shot. This is just for the director’s reference.

• Please be ready to read some lines and sing a short selection. You do not need to prepare anything in advance. You may also possibly be asked to read with different groups of people.

• Parents are welcome to come and help fill out paperwork — we need to know your summer schedule so please bring that if possible. Parents won’t be allowed in the audition space unless under special circumstances.

• We will be taking basic measurements for costuming purposes. Please make sure you or your parents know your shirt, shoe, pants and dress sizes.

• Parents, please be patient. Depending on the numbers of students who audition, the audition process can take a little time. We will work to be respectful of your family’s time as much as we can.

• Please remember that receiving a callback does not necessarily mean you are or are not getting a part. It simply means that the director would like to hear you again.

All of our participants are important no matter what part they are assigned! There are many different roles to fill. Casting is based on director preference, and includes thought about whether the student fits the role, previous experience, student behavior and how much time he or she has to commit to the project. Having a big role in one production does not necessarily guarantee you will always have a big role. It just means you fit a certain role better than others.

Plan to have fun but be on your best behavior. Please be respectful of other actors and be quiet while they are auditioning.
